Frequently Asked Questions
When will the music lessons begin?
Once you have paid your deposit, a tutor will be assigned to teach the lesson. You will receive an email once they have confirmed the slot within their timetable.
Who will be teaching them?
We have a large, experienced team of professional music practitioners and educators who work as members of the Cooperative. All members hold an enhanced DBS certificate and are members of the Education Workforce Council and take regular Safeguarding training as part of their membership.
Will the lessons be on the same day every week?
Lessons may well take place on the same day each week, but your assigned tutor may rotate these lessons so your child is not missing the same core subject each week. There may also be changes to fit in with your child’s school timetable of events.
How many lessons will my child get each academic year?
We offer 30 lessons across the academic year. These are often split into 10 lessons per term, but may fluctuate due to the changing nature of each academic year. However, we guarantee to deliver 30 lessons pro rata if you sign up in September. On our pro rata basis, if you sign up mid-term or at the start of a later term within the academic year, the number of lessons delivered will be fewer, but this is calculated in your bill, and you will only ever pay for the lessons you receive.
Does my child need an instrument?
No, we provide an instrument for your child to learn on, take home and practice on, except for Piano, Drum Kit and Harp. As your child progresses through their musical journey, we do encourage parents and carers to consider investing in their own instrument for your child. You are expected to ensure the instrument is securely stored and looked after. For high-value instruments, we recommend adding it to your home insurance. All liability for loss or damage to ‘on-loan’ instruments
How long are the lessons?
We offer 3 packages of 15, 20, and 30-minute lessons, with most parents opting for the 30-minute package. Our charges for lessons are some of the lowest within Wales.
Will the lessons be during school time?
Yes, as the chosen instrumental provider for your local authority, we only deliver lessons in school and during the school day.
What happens if my child is out of school or on a trip?
If your child is off school for any reason, we require 24 hours’ notice; otherwise, the lesson will be classed as a missed lesson and therefore chargeable. Please also inform us of any school trips well in advance so we can let the tutor know your child will not be in school that day.
How can I help my child with their instrumental progression?
To become proficient on any instrument requires a regular at-home practice routine. So please encourage your child to undertake regular practice of the music materials they are working on. Your child’s tutor will set work for them to practice within each lesson. Your child’s tutor may ask you to purchase a music book for their given instrumental discipline and or exam pieces for them to work through.
How and when do I pay for my child’s instrumental music lessons?
Once you have paid the initial deposit, we offer a variety of payment options for your child’s instrumental music lesson fees, varying from full up-front payment to monthly payment plans.
Can my child play in an ensemble?
Yes, once your child has a suitable proficiency on their chosen instrument, your assigned music tutor will direct you to the most appropriate ensemble.
Finally, if your child has additional needs or may require more support, we do advise you to let us know when booking, so we are best placed to identify a suitable tutor who is best placed to deliver the lessons
